-As a Canon Vixia HF R21 user, we always met troubles in transferring Canon HF R21 AVCHD to iMovie editing as the different codecs between Canon R21 and iMovie. The codec of recordings from Canon Vixia HF R21 is MPEG-4-AVC/H.264, the AVCHD is highly compressed and not the iMovie friendly video format, but Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) is the most compatible codec for iMovie. So if we want to edit AVCHD clips from Canon R21 in iMovie, a powerful third party conversion software is necessary.

With a resolution of 16.1 effective megapixels, the new camcorder’s Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor assures outstanding image quality with the range of interchangeable E-mount lenses.

I need to find a powerful Mac AVCHD Converter to convert VG30's 1080 60p AVCHD to ProRes for FCP 7 avoiding the quality loss.

I suggest you can also download it and then have a free trial , you will feel very satisfied.

-Step 1: Find the
http://www.brorsoft.com/mts-converter-mac/index.html
best Canon HF R21 MTS Converter for mac to install on your mac. Run it and transfer the 1080i footages from Canon R21 to the converter. +1. Launch the AVCHD converter for Mac after the installation, and then load the AVCHD .mts files to it.
-Step 2: Click "format" bar to choose the compatible output format for iMovie. +2. Click on the “Format” and get the dropdown menu, then move you pointer to “Final Cut Pro”. Under the sublist are there a few formats compatible with FCP 7. Here we recommend the Apple ProRes 422(HQ) if you give the priority to the quality of the converted videos.
-Click and choose "iMovie and Final Cut Express--> Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC)(*.mov)" +
-Step 3: You can click "settings" to customize the output parameters, adjust the resolution, bitrate as you want. Set video size as 1920*1080, video frame rate as 30fps is better (If the original recordings are 1080 50i, pls set 25fps)+3. You can click the Settings icon to do some audio/video settings. We recommend 1920*1080 as video size and 30fps as video bitrate for later easy editing in FCP 7.
